The year-round sun and warm temperatures of Florida’s coastal towns, plus the sand, water, and fun you’ll find there, makes them an ideal destination for your getaway that starts the summer season. There are several coastal towns to choose from, but if you’re a surf or space buff, you’ll love a visit to Cocoa Beach on Florida’s “Space Coast.” It’s the perfect mix of all the Florida coastal elements you crave while also being close to Cape Canaveral, and even Orlando. There are plenty of things to do and see, along with some extra special Cocoa Beach Memorial Day activities.

Kennedy Space Center

Put a visit at the top of your list of Space Coast activities this Memorial Day. Get a glimpse of the newest attraction, Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex, or wander off into the various “Mission Zones” where you’ll find hands-on activities, attractions, and tours grouped by chronological era for a detailed picture of humans in space. For a special experience, you can Dine with an Astronaut to hear stories about their journey to space while enjoying a chef-prepared buffet meal. If love what you hear and you’d like to experience what they did, the Astronaut Training Experience allows you to perform a spacewalk using immersive microgravity simulation technology, or you can participate in a launch of NASA’s Space Launch System rocket. Tickets for these special experiences are separate from regular admission and are available at the gate or online.

Mini Golf

Everyone, no matter how old, can have fun in one place during your Memorial Day retreat to Cocoa Beach. Golf N Gator features two 18-hole mini golf courses, along with an animal encounter where you’ll see a variety of alligators and reptiles. Teens and adults will want to gear up for the Beachside Grand Prix, a multi-level go-kart experience. For a more beachy experience without the reptiles, Lighthouse Cove Adventure Golf also features two 18-hole mini-golf courses. After the round, sample craft beers at the craft beer bar, or their delicious handmade ice cream!

Spa Day

No matter how much fun and excitement you pack into a Memorial Day beach vacation, you came for rest and relaxation, too. Treat yourself to some total relaxation this Memorial Day with a trip to a local spa. There are several day spas throughout the Cocoa Beach area where you can relax your cares away with a treatment like a mani/pedi, facial, body scrub or wrap, and more. End the day completely relaxed and recharged. Some spas even offer treatments that cater to men and their unique needs, so the men of the group can get some vacation pampering, too.

Surf Lessons

Cocoa Beach may be part of the Space Coast, but it’s also world-renowned for its surfing culture. Take your skills to the next level or learn a fun new sport this Memorial Day. Learn from some of the best surf instructors in the state, who will have you going from land lessons and getting familiar with the board to catching your first wave in no time. Children as young as five-years-old can learn to “hang 10,” and when everyone’s ready to catch a wave on their own, many companies offer rentals outside of class.

The Beach

It’s in the name – Cocoa Beach! You came for the beach this Memorial Day, so it’s no doubt going to be a feature of your stay. Swim, sunbathe, take a walk or run, or spread out a blanket and plant an umbrella for a beach picnic or to sit and read with the waves crashing in the background. If you’re looking for an adrenaline boost along with your beach bumming, add some excitement with parasailing, snorkeling, or SCUBA diving.

Florida Surf Museum

Founded in 1999 and formerly known as the Cocoa Beach Surf Museum, the Florida Surf Museum has moved from its original small space that was barely big enough to turn a longboard around to where it is today. That’s thanks to local volunteers and their donations of surf magazines, pictures, trophies, and other memorabilia. The first location grew large enough that it moved to its current location inside the Ron Jon Surf Shop watersports building.
